life isn’t meant to be a flawless performance
To Attend Karma
Bad karma—how often have we heard that thrown around? The familiar idea that unethical actions will come back to haunt us, that our past inevitably shapes our future. But karma is more than just consequences; it’s a call to mindfulness. When we attend to karma, we tune into the energy behind our thoughts, words, and actions, recognizing that each choice holds the potential to move us forward or keep us stuck.
Our lives are built on these choices—some conscious, others not—and yes, even the smallest decisions ripple through our days, shaping patterns that guide us. But how much of our present is locked into the past? And how much of it can we still influence in the now?
Creating new habits—like eating well, meditating, or moving your body—shifts outcomes, just as stress, neglect, or inaction can do the opposite. But here’s the irony: too often, people get lost in the idea of spiritual perfection, chasing ideals instead of being present with what is. They forget that life isn’t meant to be a flawless performance—it’s here to be experienced, raw and real.
Many stories of creation link humanity’s struggles to failure or temptation, painting life as a punishment, a test to earn redemption. But what if perfection isn’t the goal at all? What if life is about meeting yourself where you are, in your imperfection, and growing from there?
Cause and effect isn’t about labeling actions as good or bad. Instead, it’s about tuning in to the energy behind each action—does it awaken us, or does it close us off? It’s about acting with intention, not obsessing over outcomes. In vinyasa yoga, we’re taught to move with awareness—not just focusing on individual poses, but the flow between them. Each transition carries the energy of the last, rippling into the next. Like life, it’s never about isolated moments but how they connect and shape the whole.
The answers are there, on the mat and off. Just as in yoga, life isn’t about perfecting a pose. It’s about being fully present with the pose you are in, with the body you have today, and meeting it with breath. The power lies in releasing the need to perform and learning to flow with what is. When we stop measuring life against impossible standards, we begin to see it for what it truly is—an unfolding experience.
And that is the true mastery of cause and effect: being here now, letting life flow, and growing with every moment.
